A beloved children’s park which was recently the subject of a massive community campaign to safeguard its future has closed for long-awaited maintenance work.
The works at Sandy Park begin today, following the closure of its play area earlier this month.
The future of the popular Grouville play area had been in doubt, but was secured after plans to rescue it by taking it into parish ownership received overwhelming approval at a June 2025 meeting so packed that queues to get in extended around the side of the Parish Hall.
However, it took more than a year to resolve the ownership transfer, with the lease only passing through the Royal court on Friday 12 June.
Now with the land officially in parish ownership, the parish has confirmed it will be refurbishing the area, and hopes to have it complete by the summer holidays.
“Safety comes first, and these works are necessary to ensure the park remains safe and enjoyable,” officials said.
“We hope to complete the work as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
