The fire started near the Moulin de Lecq where hundreds of islanders had gathered for an early bonfire night celebration, before the flames spread across the headland towards nearby properties on Saturday evening.
It is believed that the furze fire was caused by fireworks, as part of the annual Guy Fawkes display.
Three fire engines, 15 firefighters and a water carrier were sent to bring the blaze under control before it reached any houses in the area.
At the same time, a fourth fire engine was called to a minor incident in town, meaning that all of the Fire Service’s resources were in use.

To ensure that the island was covered should another incident occur, the Fire Service had to release an engine from Grève de Lecq which was then dispatched to a hedgerow which had caught alight in St. John.
The cause of this incident is under investigation.
The Fire Service have urged islanders to celebrate responsibly this time of year by using fireworks safely and checking weather conditions before lighting a bonfire.
