Two Island Energy workers have been convicted of unlawfully killing ten people in the Haut du Mont explosion – with the company also found guilty of health and safety offences.
Jurors today found Neil Armstrong (58) and John Wright (60) guilty of ten counts of gross negligence manslaughter each. Both had denied the charges relating to the explosion on 10 December 2022.
Jersey Gas, which trades as Island Energy, was also convicted of two breaches of the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989.
The verdicts against both men and the company were unanimous, following 25 hours and eight minutes of jury deliberations.
Jurors have yet to reach verdicts on Lee Ward (59), who denies the same ten manslaughter charges.
The judge has now told the jury it can return majority verdicts in his case, meaning jurors no longer all have to agree for a verdict to be accepted.
