Jersey’s Women’s Refuge and children’s charity, Variety, are inviting people of all ages and abilities to walk, run or even hop the 5k circuit which starts from Les Jardins de la Mer to the burger bar and back.
The fun run will start at 10:00 but registrations start from 09:30. Tickets are available for £10 which includes a free set of bunny ears. Money raised from the event will go to both charities. They are aiming to top the £1,000 raised in 2016.
Sandra Auckland, 1st Assistant Chief Barker with Variety says: “The morning is set to have a great atmosphere, we’re looking forward to live music performed by Swingstyle, and we’ll have the team from Curves on hand to help us warm up. There will also be prizes for the first adult and first child across the line.”
Dressing up is optional but highly recommended as a prize will also be handed to the best fancy dress.
Among the runners will be a herd of Hautlieu students. As part of a project for their International Baccalaureate, a group of them has been raising money to support Jersey Women’s Refuge. They have also committed to get 100 fellow students, friends and family signed up for the run. Their themed progress indicator, a giant 6 foot carrot, stood at 70 before the Easter break started.
Marie Vibert, fundraiser for Refuge explained: “It’s a fun light hearted time for catching up with friends and hopefully, with some sunshine, it’s an easy sell! We really hope the students from Hautlieu reach their goal for all our sakes! Everyone is welcome including pushing prams to walking dogs.”
Jersey Women’s Refuge is a confidential service which offers free support, advice, counselling, courses and safe accommodation to victims of domestic violence 24 hours a day. Variety is dedicated to helping either disadvantaged children or children with special needs.
