As part of its ‘April Showers’ campaign, the department store is donating £1 to the charity for every branded umbrella sold during the month.

John Marquis de Gruchy Store Manager told Express: “It is the first time we are having such a campaign. We are always looking for creative and fun ways to raise money for our chosen charities and Neville Moore (de Gruchy’s Managing Director) came up with this brilliant initiative.”

A few umbrellas have already been sold in the shop and the store manager is hoping the nice weather won’t keep people from a charitable act. Mr Marquis said: “Although, it is nice and sunny out there at the moment, we are hoping to raise £3,000 for Jersey Hospice Care before the end of the month.”

Speaking about the campaign, Emelita Robbins, Jersey Hospice Care CEO, said: “We’re delighted that de Gruchy are supporting Jersey Hospice Care through their April Showers campaign – in fact, I’m almost hoping for some rain! When you buy a branded brolly this month, you’ll be contributing towards the £5.3 million we need to raise every year to enable us to care for patients with a life limiting illness and their families. We aim to help patients and their loved ones enjoy life right to the very end, with the best possible support, no matter where: at home, in hospital or at Hospice.”
