Currently, the parking spaces in the layby nearest First Tower are used by drivers wanting to park all day in the spaces, making it difficult for those who use the beach to walk their dogs.
A new trial, approved by Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, will put a three-hour time limit on the 12 spaces closest to town. Parking in these 12 spaces will be limited to a three-hour stay between 08:00 and 18:00 and drivers must show their arrival time on a parking disc.
Commenting on the scheme, Deputy Lewis said: “This is a popular area for dog walkers and families so we want to make sure that it remains accessible to them. By imposing a maximum stay limit on some of the spaces, we can make sure that the layby will not be taken up by those wishing to park all day. This means that there will be spaces available for people who want to enjoy the beach and its surroundings.”
Those wanting to use the area for all-day parking will still be able to do so in the 55 remaining spaces in this layby as well as in the other laybys further along Victoria Avenue.
