It happened at 11:45 on St Martin’s main road, and the fire service believe debris and leaves on the road following the recent winds may have been one of the causes for the incident.

Seven fire-fighters from Red Watch, and a ‘dedicated rescue unit’, went to help the driver, but when they arrived, they found that nobody was trapped inside the car, with the occupant having got out with only minor injuries.

They worked with the Police to winch the car back onto its wheels and to get the road open again.

Watch Commander Paul McGrath said; “This was a joint effort from all three emergency services to have the road made safe, cleared and re-opened in a timely manner.”
