After collecting traffic data and surveying customers to understand when and why they use the facilities, the Growth, Housing and Environment (GHE) Department found that around 75% of Islanders used the site most at the weekend and therefore wanted it to be open for longer then.
Traffic data also showed that there was a very low traffic flow on Wednesdays, so, to allow for longer weekend times, the government have decided to close the facility on Wednesdays.
The closing day will allow for operational and maintenance work.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for Infrastructure, said: “We have listened to our customers and we hope that by adjusting our opening times to provide more opportunities to reuse, recycle and dispose of waste outside the typical working week, more people will now find it easier to access our household facilities at La Collette.”
All areas (Household Reuse, Recycling Centre and Household Green Waste Reception) will follow the new opening times in the hope of encouraging more people to use the facility.
The impact of the new opening times will be monitored and customers’ feedback will be gathered to make sure they are given what they want in order to continue improving Jersey’s reuse and recycling habits.
