A Jersey charity shop has urged those in need to get in touch after reports that islanders have been taking items directly from its donation bin.

Age Concern Jersey Charity Shop said it was “saddened” to learn that individuals had been seen helping themselves to goods left outside Rondels Farm Shop for the organisation.

In a social media post, the charity explained that the donated items are intended to raise funds to support older members of the community.

“We have been saddened by the news that people have been seen helping themselves to items from our donation bin, items that have been kindly donated to us by our wonderful supporters,” the post read.

“As you know we are a charity and these items are to help us with raising funds for the elderly in the community.”

The organisation urged anyone struggling or in urgent need not to take items from the bin, but instead to speak directly to staff at the shop, who may be able to offer assistance.

“We ask you politely to please do not do this, if you are that desperate please come and see us at the shop we may be able to help,” the charity added.

Age Concern Jersey also confirmed that CCTV cameras are now in operation on the site.

The local charity supports older islanders through a range of services and relies heavily on public donations and shop sales to fund its work.

Anyone wishing to donate items or seek assistance is encouraged to contact Age Concern Jersey directly.
