Islanders will be able to purchase repurposed care and mobility equipment at affordable prices thanks to new facility launched by a local disability charity.

Enable Jersey will officially open its new ‘Equipment Hub’ at La Collette Recycling Centre on Monday 6 October.

The facility hopes to address the high costs and lack of availability of mobility and care equipment. The charity said this is a “growing problem” in the island, after receiving over 300 requests for mobility equipment in 2025 alone.

Enable Jersey explained that a lack of care equipment can often create barriers for islanders seeking to their maintain independence at home, or return home after being in hospital.

The Equipment Hub will collect used care equipment – including profile beds, rise and recliner chairs, mobility scooters, wheelchairs, and walkers – and ensure every item is professionally checked, tested, and serviced, before being sold at a reduced price.

Enable Jersey CEO Sean Pontin said: “This is a truly fantastic community project. We’ve brought together government, charity and private partners to support people in Jersey who need care equipment.

“For the first time, islanders have genuine, affordable choices, and that is essential. We make sure expensive equipment is reused wherever possible and, if not, recycled responsibly.”

The Equipment Hub will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 to 16:00. Collection and delivery services can also be offered by arrangement.
