While Bethany Alderson should have been enjoying a flurry of presents and cards on the doubly special day, the yuletide birthday girl instead became unexpectedly preoccupied with a different kind of festive delivery in the afternoon.
Giving the family third reason to celebrate, and a new meaning to the expression ‘like mother, like son’, little Hugo arrived at 14:29, weighing in at 6 lb 8 oz (2,945 grams).

He was the second of two babies to be born in Jersey on Christmas Day 2019.
Arthur Le Moignan joined the party in time for lunch, arriving at 10:04.
His weight was recorded as 7 lb 7 oz (3,380g).
The births mark a change from last year, which saw Jersey General Hospital’s Maternity Ward relatively calm over the festive period.

It was a ‘Silent Night’ on Christmas Day 2018, with no babies born. However, three little girls did arrive just in time to see the New Year’s Eve fireworks on 31 December. Then New Year’s Day (1 January 2019) was back to quiet again with no births.
In 2016, meanwhile, two boys were born on 25 December, with one taking the middle name ‘Jesus’ in a nod to the first Noel.
