Islanders considering standing for election this year are being encouraged to ensure they can answer questions on key issues including the cost of living, affordable housing, healthcare, and education.

Vote.je conducted a survey last year to find out the topics which mattered most to islanders ahead of the election in June. The top five responses were:

  • Cost of living
  • Affordable housing
  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • New hospital

Islanders thinking about standing for election are urged to be prepared to be able to share their views on these key concerns when campaigning for a seat in the States Assembly.

Vote.je campaign manager Emily Thomas said: “We wanted to get a quick snapshot of the public’s top five key issues and we’re grateful to everyone who stopped to share their views at one of our pop-up information stands or online polls.

“The results echo what we frequently see in the news and what people regularly discuss on social media.

“Election candidates should expect questions from voters about cost of living, healthcare and affordable housing, and with five months to go until election day, potential candidates should start planning now for their campaigns.”

She added: “If you’re interested in learning more about standing for election but aren’t sure where to begin, I recommend signing up for Vote.je’s free course which starts on Wednesday 28 January – many people have expressed an interest already and I’d urge others to email us to avoid missing out.”
