The #myland competition, which is run by the Jersey Festival of Words, is open to ‘Jersey-based creatives’ aged 8–17.

Entrants should submit a piece of written work that brings their fictional island – complete with its own inhabitants, buildings, laws and histories – to life.

Drawings, photos of models, and other supporting artwork are also encouraged to help impress the judges.

Each age category winner will receive £40 in book tokens and have their work featured on the Jersey Festival of Words website.

A couple of sentence starters if you need a nudge…

“As I stumbled up from the sea and on to the beach, I couldn’t quite believe what lay before me…”

“I must have lain there on the beach for hours as the tide slowly went out. Nothing could have prepared me for what I found upon awakening…”
