DFDS’ much-anticipated debut sailing between Jersey and France has hit the rocks before it even left the dock – with the Danish company cancelling its first crossings, which were due to take place today.
The fast ferry Tarifa Jet, which had been undergoing a refit in the UK, is facing “technical issues” and will need extra work before it can begin service, the operator confirmed.
As a result, Stena Vinga will step in to operate the St Malo route on Saturday and Sunday, while Friday’s sailings are cancelled altogether – and she’ll be arriving in Jersey later than expected.
I am sorry that we have had to make these changes at short notice
JERSEY ROUTE DIRECTOR CHRIS PARKER
“I am sorry that we have had to make these changes at short notice as I know that many people were looking forward to experiencing DFDS’ services for the first time, and that islanders have plans to get away for longer breaks,” Jersey Route Director Chris Parker said.
“We are working hard to keep the interference to a minimum and will notify passengers of the alternative arrangements as soon as possible.”
DFDS said all affected customers will be given a full refund, a voucher for a free return trip, and the option to move bookings to alternative departures at no extra charge.
A further update is expected at 9am this morning.
