Officers said the collision happened on the road outside Morrisons around 09:50 on Sunday (27 March).
“Rosebud the dog had run away from her owner and off the beach, whilst on a walk. She then ran out between two parked cars and was hit by an oncoming vehicle,” the Force explained.
“The car was described as a green VW people carrier and the driver of this car did stop and spent some time looking for her as she had run away after the collision, but they left the area before providing the dog owner with their details or contacting the police.”
Sadly, Rosebud did not survive her injuries.
Police now want to speak to the drive of the car that hit her and are asking anyone who saw what happened or who has more information to get in touch by calling 6126162 or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online form.
