Ports of Jersey received planning permission earlier this year to take down the old ‘Jersey Airlines’ hangar, which is the large structure to the north of the main car park, on the right when driving into the Airport.
Work is due to begin soon, and the dismantling of the entire building should be complete by March of next year.
The hangar was built in 1958, and has not housed aircraft for 25 years. In its later years it was used to store ground equipment but is now vacant.
The contract for the work has been awarded to Rok and the Jersey Demolition Company.
Work to clear the interior of the building will start within the next few weeks while specialists will ensure that asbestos is removed safely.
Airport Operations Director, Ashley Maggs said: “As the building is dismantled we will be evaluating the site and considering its future use, once the Airport’s future operational requirements are finalised.”
