Almost 150 young Jersey footballers will attend a summer training camp hosted by Everton FC next week.
Everton’s 22nd annual Summer Coaching Camp will be held at St Peter FC from Monday 11 to Friday 15 August.
The club’s academy coach Sean Robertson and his coaching team will lead the camp, assisted by St Peter coaches.
This will be Mr Robertson’s ninth consecutive visit following the introduction of these events in 2003. Over 3,000 young islanders have attended the training camps during this time.
The current curriculum is modelled on that of Everton’s academy at Finch Farm, whilst also aiming to “make the learning process fun” and “introduce something new with each visit”.
The children attending will span from six to 14 years old, and each will receive five days worth of instruction in ball skills and technical and tactical tips.
The youngsters will also be encouraged to participate in small-sided games across the week to put these skills to use.
The camp will culminate in an awards ceremony on Friday 15 August for parents and other family members to also attend.
Special prizes will be given out, and each participant will receive a certificate, a medal and signed poster.
Mr Robertson said: “We look forward to working with another crop of enthusiastic young players who are keen to learn.
“The raw talent in Jersey always seems to be at a good standard and they love their football.”
He added: “With the excellent facilities that St Peter FC provides, and the welcoming and friendly reception that seems to reflect the ‘Jersey way’ we are really looking forward to returning to our second home.”
