The results show Senator Sir Philip Bailhache first (56%), Senator Alan Maclean second (52%) and Deputy Andrew Green in third (51%).

But after that, it looks set to be a very close election. Senators Paul Routier (46%), Lyndon Farnham (45%) and Ian Gorst (45%) may well be fighting a tough battle for positions four, five and six.

In the exit poll, they were split by just three votes.

Following them is the Treasury Minister Senator Philip Ozouf on 41%, and Senator Sarah Ferguson on 37%. But with Dr Zoe Cameron close behind on 36%, the contest for those final two positions also seems too close to call.

With the exit poll being made up of a randomly selected sample, the margin of error would be enough to change around those positions, making this a very tight election to call.

At the bottom of the poll came David Richardson, who polled 7% of the sample.
