But now those stories have been written down for a new generation of youngsters to enjoy – and served up with a Genuine Jersey Stamp this spring, alongside three other businesses.

Jersey Adventures of Captain Rupert

Finance worker of 40 years and author of the Jersey Adventures of Captain Rupert, Alan Jeffries is the newest of a host of new recruits celebrating their recent Genuine Jersey status, a special stamp of home-grown goodness.

So local are Mr Jeffries’ stories, that one of the most popular involves stolen Jersey Royals by a fake Jersey cow.

Speaking of the books, which trace the flightpath of Captain Rupert and Laurie, who live above the Jersey Aero Club, grandson Bertie said: “They are very funny stories and I love my granddad reading them to me. I sit on his lap and laugh at Laurie the dog who eats seaweed and drinks bird bath water!”

His books can be found in the Jersey War Tunnels, The Fresh Fish Company and Classic Herd in St Peter, and will later on be available at Waterstones, La Mare and the airport.

Bunny Love

Perhaps also pleasing to the Island’s young beans is Genuine Jersey new addition, Bunnylove.

Known for the Jersey bean toy, the crafty business evolved from one local woman’s affection for crochet which expanded into soft toys, hats and keyrings.

Keen to support charity, owner Maria Le Lere donates to JSPCA for every dog toy version of her bean and to Philip’s Footprints – a charity supporting parents suffering the loss of a child – through her kiddie creations.

Sea View Kitchen

From crafts to kitchens, Sandrine Stuart at Sea View Kitchen ploughs her efforts into bringing a touch of la belle france to local breakfast tables with her French jam with a twist.

Made with her own freshly-grown garden blackberries and other local produce, Sandrine’s hoping to delight Island tastebuds with her jellies and figs in syrup and cognac.

Looking to the future, she’s hoping to make the range fully organic: “My most popular jelly is pear and rosemary indulgence. It’s lovely on toast but also delicious with cheese – the stronger the better!”

The White Shell Co

Moving towards beachier scenes, local couple Aran and Lauren Clark have taken inspiration from the sights, smells and shells of Jersey’s seashore for a unique range of canvases, driftwood signs and canvases.

Self-taught Aran works on the pieces, while Lauren is the business’ social media brain whizz. Together, they’ll always been found on the beach on weekends, scoping it for sparks of creativity or simply enjoying the outdoors. white shell company

Lauren commented: “We absolutely love Jersey and think it is fantastic that small businesses are supported by Genuine Jersey. Its trademark helps us stand out to our customers and prove that we are committed to using the best quality local materials.”

Speaking about the diverse new additions to Genuine Jersey, Chief Executive John Garton said: “It’s always excellent to welcome new members to the association. At Genuine Jersey we love to support all businesses who create top quality products using local ingredients.”

“Our new members this spring show the diversity of the product association members. It’s fantastic that Islanders are able to make so many unique products using the natural resources available to us on the Island.”
