The police say that between midnight and 3.50 am on Saturday, fires were discovered at the male public toilets at La Mare Slip in St Clement, the male and female toilets at La Roque Harbour, the male toilets at La Pulente and the female public toilets at Jersey Pearl at the other end of St Ouen’s Bay.
And they say that they found the same thing five weeks ago, when fires were found in toilets on La Route des Laveurs in St Ouen, Route de la Haule, at Corbiere and on Commercial Buildings.
In every case, the police say that toilet paper dispensers were set alight and left to burn, and Firefighters had to be called to put out the flames. No one was hurt in any of the fires, but there was fire and smoke damage to the toilets.
Some toilets are now being closed through the night to stop further damage.
The States of Jersey Police are appealing for any information that helps them track down the person who started the fires.
In a statement this morning, they said: “It is believed that these incidents have taken place during the early hours of the morning and whoever is responsible will have been mobile to get from one location to another.
“No injuries or harm occurred to any persons during these incidents but a considerable amount of fire and smoke damage was caused to all the properties in question.
“Did you see any vehicles in the area or people hanging around the toilets in the night? Did you notice anyone smelling strongly of smoke?”
