Islanders are being reminded never to give sparklers to children under five or relight failed fireworks ahead of Bonfire Night next month.

Jersey Fire & Rescue urged anyone planning a display to take simple precautions to keep everyone safe.

Fireworks should be bought from reputable sellers and carry CE or UKCA safety marks.

They should never be given to anyone under 18, and those using them should follow the Firework Code.

The person in charge of fireworks should avoid alcohol, while sparklers should be lit one at a time and handled with gloves.

Islanders are also advised to keep pets indoors and let neighbours know if they are planning a display.

Used fireworks should be soaked in water for at least 24 hours before disposal.

“Let’s enjoy the celebrations safely and responsibly,” the service said.
