A 7m fishing boat had to be towed back to St Helier after suffering steering failure near Les Minquiers.

The St Helier All-Weather Lifeboat was paged at 1.53pm on Friday to assist the vessel, which had dropped anchor to avoid drifting onto rocks.

While the RNLI said that the boat wasn’t in “immediate danger”, it would not have otherwise been able to get back to St Helier.

The fishing boat’s skipper, described as “experienced” by the RNLI, gave an accurate GPS position over VHF radio, allowing the crew to head straight to his location.

Once at the scene, lifeboat volunteers established a tow line and safely brought the boat back to La Collette Marina for repairs.

The lifeboat was then refuelled, washed down, and made ready for its next callout.
