The weather may only now just be warming up, but plans are already in place for Christmas celebrations this year and it was revealed today that the Ice Rink will be returning to the Fort on 7 December.
Deputy Murray Norton, Assistant Minister for the Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture Department said: “This is excellent news for the public and follows good work by EDTSC who, in January this year instigated a collaborative partnership to enable the better planning of events and festivals.
It will be wonderful to see the ice skating rightfully return to Fort Regent in December 2017 and the early planning and agreement from the collaborative partnership is greatly appreciated. I know Christmas is a long way off, but I’m already looking forward to the public fully supporting the Fort Regent festive event with the return of the ice skating.”
The decision comes as part of plans to provide better quality events for the Island community and is a result of a partnership between Parish of St Helier, Visit Jersey, Events Jersey, Genuine Jersey, the Jersey Hospitality Association and the Jersey Development Company. The rink will be sponsored by Sure.
Jo Mousdale, Fort Regent Centre Manager said: “We were overwhelmed by the public support for Fort Regent and Ice Skate Jersey last year, and are very pleased to be working with Ice Skate Jersey, as well as our on site operators Fort Adventures Ltd, in the delivery of a Festive Event this year.
We have also been working with Anna Renouf of the Parish of St Helier to identify ways in which we can better connect the Event to the Town Centre, particularly around other planned events, including late night shopping and Sunday Christmas opening hours.
The Ice Skating works so well at the Fort, we hope the public will really get behind us and visit the Fort this winter, we hope to create a real festive experience.”
Ice skate Jersey said they are “thrilled” to be returning to the Fort for a seventh year.
