The store has premises on King Street in Jersey and in the Commercial Arcade in Guernsey.

Express contacted the chain after Aurelius, the private equity firm that bought the business for £207m in November, decided that it had insufficient working capital after disappointing Christmas sales. However, neither the local store or Body Shop headquarters was able to offer a comment yesterday.

There are hopes that insolvency practitioners may be able to negotiate lower rates in order to bring down day-to-day costs and save some stores.

It comes at a time of turbulence for the local and national high street, with Paperchase and Sephora closing their doors last year.
