Over the next two days more than 80 crews – many from Guernsey and the UK – will be racing over eight stages – in the hope of being crowned Paperclix Jersey Rally champion 2016.
Organisers are keen to encourage spectators and say one of the best places to get a close up view of the cars and the crews will be at the ceremonial start at the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society Headquarters in Trinity from 12:15.
There are two stages this afternoon: from noon until 17:00 – the Brabant and St Martin stages, and two evening stages – from 18:00 until 22:30 – the Hetres and Rossignol stages.
On Saturday, the action switches to the north of the Island, with two stages between 07:45 and 12:45 at Sorel and Les Platons. The weekend’s events culminate with two stages between 12:45 and 17:30, in Waterwork’s Valley and St Lawrence.
One of the great attractions of the Jersey Rally for both competitors and spectators is that because of local laws the action can place on closed off roads. Most similar events in the UK take place on private land – often woods and forests – or at former airfields.
Last year’s winning local duo of Stevie Leonard and Sion Humphreys – who also won back in 2013 – aren’t competing this time round – although Sion has teamed up with Ed Fossey – so there’s got to be a new winner, which means there’s everything to race for.
