Unofficially labelled the ‘start of summer festival’, Good Vibrations started life in 2017 as a ‘DIY festival’ and has since grown to become one of Jersey’s biggest summer events.

The festival is being held in conjunction with the Channel Islands Surf Championships, and will feature local bands and DJs, a surfboard art gallery and after parties at the Watersplash.

Around 1,000 to 2,000 people are expected to turn out for the festival, which is free to enter during the day, and organiser Jake Powell said that he “couldn’t have hoped for a better forecast.”

Jake stated that the festival had three main themes: mental health, the environment, and of course all the outrageousness of the 1980s.

He said: “We want to get people immersed in mullets, moustaches and the mischief.”

Good Vibrations is being held in conjunction with Mind Jersey, and organisers are hoping they can top last year’s total of £6,000 raised for the mental health charity.

Key to the fundraising is the ‘mullet for mind’ campaign. 16 people have been fundraising ahead of the event and have between them raised around £1,000. In reward for their efforts, they will be given an iconic 1980s mullet at the festival from KSG Barbers.

Around 10 corporate teams will also be facing off in the ‘Samba Soccer’ 5-aside football competition, which has already raised around £1600.

Durrell will have a presence, taking in all the aluminium cans they can as part of their “Cans for Corridors” project, which aims to use the proceeds from recycling to help fund vital tree corrdiors between disjointed sections of the Amazon rainforest.

LittleFeet Environmental, a beach cleaning charity, will also be offering 15 free alcoholic drink tokens for people who fill up a black bin bag with beach detritus.

Everyone is encouraged to turn up in their most outrageous 1980s inspired get-up: “We want dodgy mullets, anything colourful, anything fun… whack it all on!”
