The Government remains “unhappy” with the quality of paintwork done as part of a drive to improve and maintain the Lido, according to the Infrastructure Minister – who stressed that the work will only be signed off “once it meets the required standards”.

Constable Andy Jehan explained that the contractor and supplier involved were “assessing multiple solutions in order to determine the most suitable option to rectify it”.

The issue was recently raised by St Helier South Deputy David Warr.

He said taxpayers should be “hugely concerned” about the quality of the paintwork after it emerged that £157,000 had been spent on external redecoration and repairs of the Lido.

In an update, Constable Jehan said: “We remain unhappy with the quality of this work.

“The contractor and supplier are currently assessing multiple solutions in order to determine the most suitable option to rectify it, including expected timelines.”

He clarified that this will not impact the operation of the site.

The Infrastructure Minister added: “The contract remains ongoing as part of the standard process of managing and finalising the project.

“The Government will only sign off on the work once it meets the required standards.”

Reacting to the update, Deputy Warr said: “What’s positive now with the Lido is the community engagement surrounding it,” noting that it was used frequently including during the winter months.

“If we listen to the people on the ground more, these things naturally progress and improve,” he added.
