A 93-year-old grandma became an unexpected TikTok star this week after a video of her trip to Jersey racked up thousands of views on social media.

Jean Hope first visited Jersey in 1971, when travel via the Sealink ferry cost just £40 for her whole family.

Now, almost 55 years later, Jean asked her daughter and granddaughter if she could return to the island for a trip down memory lane.

Her granddaughter Joanna Yates posted about their holiday on Tiktok – where images of Jean enjoying Jersey ice cream at St Brelade’s Bay were viewed almost 10,000 times.

Joanna told Express: “We sat in the sunshine and had take-out pizza, returning a few times throughout our stay, eating ice cream in the sun on the beach front.”

During their trip, the family also visited Corbière Lighthouse, Gorey Village, and Jersey Pearl.

They drove past what used to be the Arlgilston Guest House, where Jean stayed with her children during prior visits.

The three women went for a wander around St Helier to see how much the town centre had changed in the last few decades.

After a meal out in St Aubin, Jean’s daughter Sue spotted the same wall that her mother fell off 50 years ago and broke a bone in her foot.

Granddaughter Joanne added that their holiday was not dulled by the variable weather.

“Nan loved every minute of the trip down memory lane and couldn’t believe she had the chance to revisit a place that holds such special memories for her with family over the years,” she said.
