Islanders impacted by suicide are due to carry the ‘Baton of Hope’ around 25 locations in Jersey this Sunday as part of the UK’s largest ever suicide prevention initiative.

The metal baton will be passed along by people who have been affected by suicide, including as bereaved family members and people who have attempted to take their own life.

The relay is not a race nor fundraiser, but aims to raise awareness and promote prevention of suicide.

Some of Jersey’s iconic landmarks will feature in the tour, including Elizabeth Castle, The Lido, and Corbière Lighthouse.

The event coincides with the recent publication of the four-year Strategy for Suicide Prevention in Jersey 2025-2029, which aims for there to be zero suicides taking place in the island.

A marquee will be situated in Millennium Park from 12:00 to 14:00 on Sunday – featuring live music and the opportunity to see the baton, meet the baton bearers, and hear more about the national initiative.

Members of the public are also invited to walk stretches of the relay route with the baton bearers or show their support as they pass by.
