Amélie decided to use her birthday as an opportunity to raise money for local health workers as a “thank you” for the work they have done during the pandemic “to keep things going”.

For her recent birthday, Amélie asked friends and family for money instead of presents to donate to the Healthcare Heroes initiative.

In addition to donations, Amélie also invited her friends and family to sponsor her as she completed a challenge to run, walk and cycle 26 miles over her birthday weekend, which was completed in compliance with government guidelines at the time.

Amélie raised a total of £1,000, which has now been donated to Holidays for Healthcare so that healthcare workers can benefit from a “proper thank you gift” after all their hard work during the pandemic in Jersey.

The initiative is also appealing to other islanders, asking them to donate the value of their £100 shop local” vouchers to the fund, which was set up by local finance worker Richard Thomas and aims to reach £50,000.

Donations on the page currently stand at over £8,000.
