A combination of high winds and high tides closed roads, brought traffic to a standstill and threatened to damage homes.
Police closed Victoria Avenue and Havre des Pas as conditions made many coastal roads unsafe for drivers. Many other roads were closed as the storm brought down trees around the Island.
Inter-island flights were also cancelled, but are running again now.
Damage to the roof over the petrol pumps at the Marks and Spencer Store in St John was caused earlier in the evening forcing the closure of the store, but no one was injured and the store reopened this morning.
