Islanders can remember their loved ones at a candle-lit memorial event at St Brelade’s Bay this summer.
Jersey Hospice Care is hosting its annual ‘Candles on the Beach’ on the evening of Saturday 2 August.
Individuals and families will gather to illuminate the area using candlelight as a symbol of hope, to remember special people in their lives who have passed away.

Emily Churchill, spiritual care lead
Emily Churchill, spiritual care lead at the palliative care charity, said that the event is an opportunity for grieving people to support each other.
“So often we grieve alone, and we don’t consciously remind ourselves that we’re grieving because a life has been lived, memories have been created, and love has been shared,” she said.
“Coming to ‘Candles on the Beach’ allows you to stand next to a stranger, and without sharing a word, you know that they understand.”
Scott Douglas, events manager at Jersey Hospice Care explained that the “one-of-a-kind” event is for anyone who has lost a loved one – not just for those supported by the charity.
“Hosting ‘Candles on the Beach’ is one of the ways we can give back to our community and say thank you for their generosity and support,” he added.
Attendees are encouraged to book in advance and donate for their candle.
Tickets and more information about the event will be shared by the charity nearer the time.
