Two islanders had their cars taken for a joy ride over the weekend after the vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside.

Police confirmed that the suspected perpetrators had been arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

In a post on social media, the force said: “On this occasion, there was no damage to the cars, but that’s not always the case.

“We know it sounds simple, but please lock your cars. Don’t make yourself an easy target.

“Remember, if your car or items are stolen whilst your vehicle is unlocked, your insurance might not cover you.

“Locking your car is a simple step which can help save you – and us – a world of trouble.”

Express has requested further information on the offences, including where they took place.
