Mounds of earth dumped in a Trinity beauty spot have sparked a parish appeal for witnesses after what angry officials believe is a deliberate case of repeat fly-tipping.
The piles of soil, grass and rubble were discovered at the Bouley Bay car park on Rue de la Petite Falaise, where parish officials say the dumping appears to have escalated over the course of the week.
“It started with one mound of earth at the beginning of the week, and there are now three,” the parish said on social media.
The parish added that all three mounds “appear to have come from the same site and contain soil, grass and the odd brick”.
A further report of “similar fly-tipping” off Rue des Platons has since also been received from a parishioner.
“It is totally unacceptable”
Trinity Constable Philip Le Sueur told Express that the dumping was discovered by one of the parish’s roads inspectors.
“It’s not just some rubbish,” he said.
“The soil could have come from anywhere, so we need to find out who is responsible.”
Mr Le Sueur added that it was “indefensible” and “totally unacceptable for people to do such a thing”, given that there are facilities to safely dispose of waste around the Island.
He added that, while it is difficult to provide a precise cost for the clearing and proper disposal of the waste, it will likely cost the public purse “a few hundred pounds”.
