Victoriano Sousa Gomes (40) has been sentenced by the Royal Court for attempting to import the drugs earlier this year.

He was stopped by a joint operation by the States of Jersey Police and officers from the Customs and Immigration department.

An officer from the police Criminal Investigation department said that the partnership had stopped a significant amount of drugs hitting the streets.

Detective Inspector Steve Langford, of the CID, said: “This is a fine example of the results that can be gained by working with partner agencies to disrupt those involved in this type of criminality.

“There can be great complexities in dealing with intelligence led operations such as these but the positive relationships and shared effort by both agencies played a significant part in bringing the offenders to justice. This was a significant seizure of a drug which would have otherwise made it to the streets of the Island.

“The States of Jersey Police remain committed to pursuing those involved in drug trafficking, seizing their assets and confiscating their ill-gotten gains.”
