Jersey residents will no longer be able to travel to the EU using pet passports from tomorrow under new rules.

The change means islanders whose main residence is in Jersey must instead obtain an Animal Health Certificate from a vet before travelling with their pets.

Existing EU pet passports may be refused under the updated regulations, which apply even if the passport was issued in the EU.

The Government of Jersey said the move could affect those planning trips with animals to Europe, and confirmed that ferry operator DFDS is contacting passengers due to travel with pets this week.

However, officials added that those currently in France returning to Jersey should still be able to travel back using their current documentation.

The Infrastructure and Environment department said it recognised the inconvenience caused and urged pet owners to check the latest guidance before making travel plans.
