Ormer by Shaun Rankin is the only restaurant outside London to make the shortlist for ‘Best Newcomer’ in the prestigious Food & Travel Reader Awards this year.

Shaun is also in the running for “Food & Travel Chef of the Year’ but he needs your votes to beat off competition from the likes of Jason Atherton, Angela Hartnett, Tom Kerridge, Simon Rogan, Ben Tish, Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth.

The restaurant has only been open a year but it’s already picked up a Michelin star and 3 AA Rosettes. This would be the icing on the cake for Sean and should help drive more foodies to the Island.

Shaun Rankin, Chef Proprietor, Ormer, says: “It’s a well recognised food and travel magazine around the globe, for us it would be a great achievement, you’re up there with the top chefs and establishments.

“Jersey has the highest number of Michelin star restaurants per square mile outside of London and these award nominations are further proof of Jersey’s status as a leading destination of gastronomy.

The voting is open to the public until 25 August at http://www.foodandtravel.com/awards

The nominees with the most votes will be crowned winners at an awards ceremony in September.

As Shaun waits to hear whether he’s scooped some more top accolades he’s featured in the latest Food & Travel Magazine and cited as ‘a champion of local produce’ in an article which raves about Ormer’s fish dishes and describes his treacle tart as ‘a gooey, crunchy, indulgent piece of island legend’.

Meanwhile his Don Street Deli is described as the place to ‘pick up the perfect picnic’.
