The ‘Jersey Jigsaw Swap’ Facebook group is run by puzzle enthusiast Madeleine Parker-Want to allow islanders to enjoy the cognitive and therapeutic benefits of puzzle solving without breaking the bank.
The social media group now has around 450 members, with active swapping taking place every week.
Madeleine said: “Jigsaws improve cognitive functions as they require concentration, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
“One of the members has said they have been a great help for post-stroke therapy.”
Speaking of her love of jigsaws, she explained: “I have done jigsaws since I was a child. I always had one for Christmas.
“I enjoy them because I find them relaxing and calming. I had done the odd one over the years but it was the pandemic that sparked an interest again.”

The Facebook group was set up in March 2020 with jigsaw puzzles being used to alleviate boredom during the pandemic.
She said: “During lockdown, jigsaws were difficult to purchase and they are expensive. Once completed, they are usually put in the loft where they sit unused.
“Back then, we used to wipe the boxes with disinfectant and put in a place for the swap to take place without people touching each other.
“I remember people turning up at my house with latex gloves, and masks and staying the required distance away from each other, putting the box on the floor for me to pick up and I would do the same!”
Madeleine continued: “Some people would put them in ‘isolation’ for a couple of weeks in their homes to ensure all germs were gone before they opened the box!
“Now three years later people chat on doorsteps or in houses, swaps take place anywhere and everywhere, work, car parks, cafes and shops. I know that friendships have been formed from this.”
