In its latest newsletter, the Jersey Hedgehog Preservation Group thanked vet receptionists around the island for selling scores of the woolly hogs to raise the “magnificent sum” of £4,264 during 2023.
The organisation also thanked their “hard-working” knitters and paid tribute to those who no longer took part due to illness or because of their sad passing.
The Hedgehog Preservation Group also said that some people are reporting hedgehogs coming to feed in their gardens.
Islanders are advised that a dish of fresh water and some dog or cat food would suit hedgehogs reappearing due to milder weather.
Founded in 1992, the non-profit organisation looks after the island’s hedgehog population.
