Starting today, the Association of Jersey Charities’ (AJC) ‘Legacy Week’ will aim to spread this message, while celebrating the difference donations left in wills can make, whether big or small.

As AJC Chair Kevin Keen explained, legacies make up 30% of local charities’ annual income.

“Making your will is the best way to protect the people and causes you care about. Your legacy may include leaving a gift in your will to a charity that has made a difference to you, someone you care for or a cause you are passionate about. After you have looked after your family and friends, including a gift to charity in your will, no matter how small, will make a big difference,” he explained.

To help islanders make choices about which charities to support, the AJC is this week taking over the Santander Work Café, hosting Macmillan Jersey, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, Jersey Hospice Care, Brightly, Dementia Jersey, Caring Cooks, Focus on Mental Health and Every Child Our Future.

Jersey Fundraising Forum Chair Beth Gallichan commented: “The week aims to provide Islanders and charities with an opportunity to talk and learn more about the difference you can make by leaving a gift to a cause you really care about.”
