Assistant Health and Social Security Minister Malcolm Ferey said the idea followed successful schemes elsewhere.
He said: “It’s a lovely initiative which started in the UK, so those who are grieving can put their thoughts and feelings down in a letter or card. It’s very cathartic.”

He continued: “Anyone can pop up to the lovely surroundings of the memorial garden at Westmount and post their letter.’ Deputy Ferey said any letters or cards posted would be treated with confidence and respect.
“Only Crem staff will have the key to the box. It will be opened and emptied periodically and the contents securely disposed of, so people can be assured their letters won’t ever be opened or read.”
