Licensed permissions are now available for a wider range of jobs – including educational support staff, nursery workers, and extra healthcare roles.

The Government has today relaxed rules for businesses applying to employ registered and licensed employees in a bid to to make the application process “simpler and more transparent”, ensuring employers can recruit the staff they need.

Assistant Chief Minister Carina Alves explained that, subject to “some simple checks”, an employer will now be able to get a licence for a full-time job with a salary of at least £54,000 with the employee able to rent qualified accommodation.

For jobs with salaries of £60,000 or over, the employee will be able to rent or buy in the qualified market.

The higher threshold has always existed in policy internally for a number of years but this was never published publicly.

The lower threshold of £54,000 is new and sits in line with the current average wage, Deputy Alves explained.

She also said that licensed permission could now be requested for a range of jobs with lower salaries. The new guidance sets out a list of the jobs covered.

She said: “It’s important that government makes it as easy as possible for businesses to take on the staff they need.

“We have listened to local employers and have taken action to make the application process simpler and more transparent, with new guidance setting out the rules.

“For the first time, we have also published a list of jobs where the normal salary limits don’t apply.”

The Assistant Chief Minister added: “As a former teacher, I am especially pleased to be able to expand licensed roles to include educational support staff and nursery workers.

“We have also included extra healthcare roles to make sure that health care providers can recruit more easily.”
