The Lido has issued a “fraud warning” to customers amid concerns that someone may be attempting to “impersonate” the Havre des Pas-based business.
Company directors said they had become aware that an “unrelated person or entity” had registered the business name ‘Lido Jersey’ with the Jersey Financial Services Commission.
“We are deeply concerned that this registration may be an attempt to impersonate our company or mislead the public,” they said in a statement.
“We have reported the matter to the JFSC and our lawyer and are awaiting further action.”
It comes amid an ongoing tender process to take over the management of the bathing pool next year.
Community group Love Our Lido, which was set up as a company but claims to want to become a charity, lost its preferred-bidder status on 29 September after initially beating one other contender.
The Lido directors urged customers to exercise caution and be wary of making payments to anyone claiming to represent the Havre des Pas company without confirmation that it is the official business.
The statement continued: “If you have any doubts or suspect fraudulent activity, please contact us directly or report it to the JFSC immediately.
“We thank our loyal customers and community for helping us protect the integrity of this iconic site and the honest businesses that serve it.”
