Christopher Eccleston has leant his voice to ‘Whispers of Freedom’, the latest work by Guernsey filmmaker Brandon Ashplant.

The BAFTA nominee and Emmy Award winning actor is most well known for his role as the ninth reincarnation of Doctor Who.

Production has nearly wrapped on Mr Ashplant’s film, which is set in 1980s Cold War East Berlin.

It is based on the true story of Chris Gueffroy, who decided to escape West Berlin.

The short film is also due to star Thomas Gabrielsson as Swedish Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson, who led the country from 1986 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 1996.

Mr Ashplant said: “Principal photography recently wrapped in Berlin, with production having taken place at key locations in the former east of the city, including Wedekindstraße – the same Berlin street that Georg Dreyman lives on in Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s Oscar-winning ‘The Lives of Others’ (2006).

“Prior to that, production largely took place in Guernsey in April, including at the Guernsey Water’s Kings Mills WTW site, Burnt Lane, Back Street car park and various other locations.

“The film is supported by the DDR Museum in Berlin and Guernsey Arts.”
