Michael Mainelli said he “thoroughly enjoyed” his time in the island on Thursday and Friday last week.

“This visit will deepen our ties”

The Lord Mayor’s engagement’s included a meeting with Digital Jersey, dinner with the Bailiff, Chief Minister, Ministers and States Assembly members, a breakfast meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, and a discussion hosted by Jersey Finance.

He said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting Jersey and Guernsey.

“The special relationship between the UK and the Channel is key to growing our mutual financial and professional services sectors.”

The Lord Mayor continued: “The Channel Islands are major international financial centres and we have used this opportunity to engage on the key initiatives, including Ethical AI, sustainability, and fintech.”

“I’m proud to be a global ambassador for UK financial and professional services, and this visit will deepen our ties and help boost the Channel Islands’ representation across the world.”

Neighbours and “like-minded” friends

External Relations Minister Ian Gorst said it was “a pleasure” to host the Lord Mayor, adding that there were “many synergies” between Jersey and the City of London.

He continued: “We are both open, outward facing, innovative and deeply globally engaged.

“His visit was an opportunity to discuss several of our shared priorities.

“It is more important than ever that we are having these constructive dialogues with our neighbours and like-minded friends.”
