The car came into the Island on Friday on the ferry, and the driver was stopped by Customs and Immigration Officers.

Their sniffer dog indicated that there were drugs in the car, and around 31 kilos were discovered in a hidden compartment.

The driver – a man from Dorset – was due in court over the drugs yesterday.

The seizure is a major one by Jersey standards – over the course of 2015, Customs officers seized a total of £2.3 million worth of cannabis.

Customs say that anyone with any information about drug smuggling can call their Freephone number 0800 7355555 and speak to a Customs Officer in complete confidence.
