The Attorney General, Robert MacRae, told the Court that the prosecution could not offer any evidence against Nuno Miguel Vieira Goncalves.

Mr Goncalves was due to face a trial following the allegations.

The Attorney General however told the Deputy Bailiff, Tim le Cocq QC, who was sitting with Jurats Elizabeth Dulake and Robert Christensen, that, after reviewing the evidence in the case, “there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”

As a result, the Deputy Bailiff dismissed the charge.

Mr Goncalves’ Advocate, Luke Sette, applied for reasonable costs.
