Simon James Hickey appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this week charged with possession of two Class A drugs and some cannabis.
The court heard that Hickey was at the Tenby Bar in St. Brelade when the door staff were conducting a routine check of the men’s toilets. As he came out of a cubicle, they apprehended him.
Hickey was asked whether he had been using drugs and subsequently handed over a money bag which contained the substances later identified as MDMA, cocaine and cannabis.

Hickey then left the Tenby and was later arrested at the Old Court House.
The amount of drugs recovered from Hickey were so small they were deemed to have little or no resale value. The substances included 117mg of cannabis resin, which was described as “just about enough for a spliff”, 41mg of a white powder found to be cocaine, and fragments of MDMA tablets. Overall, the drugs were determined to be worth less than £25.
Advocate James Bell, defending, said that “Mr Hickey is ashamed about his poor judgement” and that this was an “isolated incident brought on by stresses and strains going on in his personal life.”

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu, presiding, said that “these were serious offences because you had two different Class A drugs in a public place”, before handing down a financial penalty.
Hickey must pay £500 for the possession of the two Class A substances and a further £50 for the cannabis.
Relief Magistrate Le Cornu added: “I hope you have learned your lesson and that we won’t see you back in Court.”
