Luis Abreu Dos Santos was arrested with “blood all over his hands” in October after the brutal attack, which left his partner with serious injuries to her head, arms and neck that required surgery, according to Police.
Firearms officers were sent to his property after being alerted by paramedics, and took the blood-covered Dos Santos into custody.
He pleaded guilty to grave and criminal assault but denied attempted murder, leading to a five-day Royal Court trial this week.
The jury retired on Thursday, but was unable to reach a verdict on the charge of attempted murder. They were discharged yesterday.
Detective Constable James Fowler, the Investigating officer, praised the victim as the case came to a close yesterday.
“Dos Santos’ actions put his victim in grave danger,” he said.
“We would like to commend the victim for her courage, strength and bravery throughout what has been a horrendous ordeal for her.”
He added: “SoJP has a dedicated department for investigating domestic abuse with a number of specialist resources it can call upon to investigate the crime and offer victims support. We are committed to ensuring that no stone is left unturned and offenders are put before the courts to pay for the crimes they commit.”
