@BBCJersey@ITVChannelTV@Channel103@JEPnews@bailiwickxpress Did you know that according to the @GovJersey website, the sun will neither rise nor set in Jersey or Guernsey during the month of February?! Do they know something we lesser mortals don’t?!!????https://t.co/J2UlEno4DD

Unfortunately, it seemed the rumours were in fact true – a search of the website showed no sunrises for February whatsoever:
And Jersey wasn’t the only Channel Island apparently fated to endure an Arctic winter…
Things were not looking good for Guernsey either:
Not a man to be dissuaded from his duties by the promise of endless darkness, Deputy Sam Mézec still found time for some political commentary:
Yes, there will be no sunrises or sunsets in February. Instead the Island will be covered in an eerie haze for the month. This is part of a consultant’s trial to investigate whether the whole system should continue or not. This has been secured at a bargain rate of £7m.

Luckily for the sanity of islanders, Paul Aked, Manager of the Government of Jersey’s Meteorological Department, assured Express that this was merely a technical error, which will be corrected in due course.
“I can confirm that the sun will rise in February,” he said.
Phew.
